Cancelling after a claim: the extraordinary right
A claim can open an extraordinary right of cancellation under the ICA. This right belongs in principle to both parties: you can leave your insurer, but the insurer can also cancel. It is best to know the rules before acting.
When does the right arise?
The ICA provides that after a claim for which a benefit is due, each party may cancel the contract. The deadline to exercise this right runs from a specific event (the payment of the benefit, for example) and is generally short.
Read your general conditions carefully: they specify the exact moment the right arises and the applicable notice period.
