Cancellation notice periods by insurance line
Each insurance line has its own notice-period customs. Most property and liability insurance governed by the ICA provides a three-month notice period before the annual renewal. Here are the usual benchmarks, always to be confirmed in your general conditions.
Property and liability (car, household, private liability)
For car, motorbike, household, private liability or legal expenses insurance, the usual notice period is three months before the annual renewal date stated on the policy. Under the revised law, a right of cancellation at the end of the first year is often available.
Supplementary health (ICA) and life insurance
Supplementary health insurance falls under the ICA: often a three-month notice period for a renewal on 31 December. Note that KVG basic insurance follows separate rules (see the dedicated guide).
For life insurance and pillar 3a, cancellation depends closely on the contract terms and can have financial consequences: speak to your adviser before any decision.
